Terms

Terms of service for the Cohlta app

Effective 10 September 2026. Cohlta is operated by Contrivance Inc., a New York corporation. These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use the Cohlta app and this website. Contact: [email protected].

Who can use Cohlta

You must be at least 13 years old to have an account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you. You may not use Cohlta if we have removed you from it before. You are responsible for your account and for everything posted from it.

Your content

You own what you post: videos, stories, comments, messages, your profile. By posting, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, process, reproduce, adapt (for example to transcode, caption, thumbnail or describe it), display and distribute that content within Cohlta, for as long as it is on the service and for the limited retention described in the privacy policy. This licence exists so the app can show your clip to other people. It does not let us sell your content or put it in advertising without asking you.

You must have the rights to what you post. Do not post other people's work, private information, or anything you do not have permission to share.

What is not allowed

Cohlta carries real footage of real places, including news and reporting from difficult ones, and we want it to stay that way. What we do not allow anywhere on the service, in videos, stories, comments, messages, profile photos, names or bios, is:

Reporting on conflict, protest, accidents and other hard news is allowed. Footage that shows injury or blood may be placed behind a warning that a viewer chooses to tap through, rather than removed. The full list is in the community guidelines.

How moderation works

We have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Most of what we do about it is automatic:

Appeals

If something of yours is removed or covered and you think that is wrong, you can appeal once per decision from Settings, then Content Status in the app. A person reads every appeal. If the decision is overturned, the content is restored everywhere it was. If it is upheld, that decision is final.

Contact between people

You can only start a message or a call with someone who follows you back. Existing conversations continue unless one side blocks the other. Calls are end-to-end encrypted and are not recorded by us.

AI features

Cohlta uses AI to caption, describe and organise clips, to answer questions in Ask, and to check content against the rules above. These systems run on infrastructure we operate. Your content is not sent to third-party AI providers. AI output can be wrong: do not rely on it where an error would matter, and use your own judgement about what you watch and post.

Ending your account

You can deactivate or permanently delete your account from Settings at any time. Deleting your account removes your profile and content from the service, subject to the retention described in the privacy policy. We may suspend or end accounts that break these terms, and we will reverse that if we got it wrong.

Our service

Cohlta is provided as it is. We do not promise it will always be available or free of errors. To the fullest extent the law allows, Contrivance Inc. is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, and our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars, whichever is greater. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

We may change Cohlta, and these terms, as the service develops. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Cohlta after that means you accept the change.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts in New York County, New York, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
